Travel has changed. Increasingly, people choose destinations not only for beaches, landmarks or climate, but for the lifestyle and cultural experiences they offer. Architecture, design, fashion, gastronomy and local creative communities have become powerful reasons to visit a city. For a growing number of travellers, the most memorable journeys are shaped by the places they stay and the stories those places tell.
Lisbon has emerged as one of Europe’s most closely watched destinations, attracting international visitors drawn by its architecture, culture, gastronomy and creative energy. The Portuguese capital has developed a reputation for combining history with contemporary design, making it a natural setting for projects that sit at the intersection of fashion, architecture and hospitality.
This evolving identity forms the backdrop for KARL LAGERFELD Residences Lisboa, the Maison’s first residential development in Portugal and the first branded residential project of its kind in Lisbon. Presented through an immersive event at MAAT Central – Museu da Electricidade, the project introduced guests to a world shaped by the creative vision that defined Karl Lagerfeld throughout his career. The event transformed one of Lisbon’s leading cultural institutions into a journey through the universe of KARL LAGERFELD. Guests encountered archival fashion pieces, architectural renderings and a carefully reconstructed version of Lagerfeld’s iconic office at Rue Saint-Guillaume. Sketches, furnishings and personal design references offered a rare glimpse into the environment where many of his ideas first took shape.

The choice of location was significant. Lisbon’s growing position as a European design capital mirrors many of the values that define the project itself: creativity, internationalism and a strong appreciation for culture. During the evening, speeches by Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of KARL LAGERFELD, and Pedro Vicente, CEO of OVERSEAS, highlighted a vision that extends beyond real estate.
Located at Rua Braamcamp, steps from Avenida da Liberdade, the development comprises just ten residences distributed across eleven floors. Spacious layouts, contemporary technology and carefully selected materials create an environment where design remains central to daily life. Interiors feature brushed steel, lacquer finishes, Via Láctea stone and Grigio-toned wood, creating a visual language closely associated with the Maison. The project also reflects a growing trend within luxury travel. Travellers increasingly seek experiences that feel personal and connected to culture. They are drawn towards destinations that offer a strong sense of identity rather than standardised luxury. In many ways, branded residences respond to this desire by creating environments that extend the values of a fashion house beyond clothing and accessories.

Throughout the residence, references to Karl Lagerfeld’s personal world remain present. One particularly distinctive detail can be found within the wellness area, where an underwater sound system pays tribute to a similar installation once located in Lagerfeld’s home in Biarritz. Alongside a heated pool, steam room, sauna, treatment spaces and fitness facilities, the feature reinforces the project’s connection to the designer’s lifestyle.
Perhaps most importantly, KARL LAGERFELD Residences Lisboa reflects a broader transformation taking place within luxury travel. Increasingly, travellers are seeking places that offer cultural depth alongside comfort. They want architecture that tells a story, design that carries meaning and destinations that leave a lasting impression long after the journey ends.
