Few signatures in luxury have achieved the cultural significance of the Louis Vuitton Monogram. Created in the late nineteenth century, it has evolved from a practical hallmark of craftsmanship into one of fashion’s most recognisable design codes. The challenge for any historic maison is to preserve such an icon while allowing it to evolve for a new generation.
“Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire,” wrote Gustav Mahler. The thought captures the philosophy behind enduring design: heritage remains relevant when it continues to inspire innovation rather than simply repeat the past. How does one reinterpret one of fashion’s most recognised signatures without losing its identity?
Celebrating the 130th anniversary of its Monogram, Louis Vuitton introduces Monogram Emblème, a new jacquard canvas that revisits one of the Maison’s defining symbols through material innovation. Inspired by the original cotton canvases that once covered Louis Vuitton’s historic trunks, the new textile combines GOTS-certified cotton with linen fibres to create a distinctive tactile surface.

The jacquard construction gives the Monogram a denser appearance reminiscent of fine embroidery, while maintaining the durability and water-resistant qualities associated with the Maison’s travel heritage. Five differently coloured yarns are woven together to create depth and subtle tonal variation, emphasising the richness of the fabric.
The Pre-Fall collection introduces two new colours: Peuplier, inspired by the wooden structures of Louis Vuitton’s historic trunks, and Rose Ruban, referencing the delicate ribbon details found on archival luggage. The palette will later expand with Monogram Bleu, drawn from the Maison’s colour registers of the 1930s, and Vert Jura, inspired by the landscapes surrounding Louis Vuitton’s birthplace.

Monogram Emblème appears across some of Louis Vuitton’s most recognisable creations, including the Alma, Neverfull, Speedy, Noé, Keepall, and Side Trunk, while also extending to small leather goods, footwear, and accessories. Through this new canvas, the Maison demonstrates that innovation can strengthen an icon without altering its identity, allowing one of fashion’s most enduring signatures to continue its evolution while remaining unmistakably Louis Vuitton.
