The Red Sea Welcomes Miraval and Four Seasons

by s.elective

Luxury hospitality is increasingly shaped by destinations that combine exceptional natural landscapes with thoughtful approaches to sustainability, wellbeing, and design. Around the world, travellers are placing greater value on resorts that preserve their surroundings while offering experiences rooted in local ecosystems and contemporary comfort. This evolution has encouraged the emergence of new destinations that balance ambitious architectural development with long-term environmental responsibility. As a result, luxury travel is increasingly measured not only by exclusivity but also by the quality of its relationship with nature.

The future of hospitality has become a central topic among industry leaders. Horst Schulze, co-founder of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, has observed, “People expect so much more than satisfaction. They want an experience.” His statement reflects the growing demand for destinations that create meaningful connections between guests and their surroundings. Architect Norman Foster has similarly remarked, “As an architect, you design for the present, with an awareness of the past, for a future which is essentially unknown.” Together, these perspectives illustrate how contemporary luxury destinations increasingly unite architecture, environmental responsibility, and immersive guest experiences within a single vision.

The Red Sea continues to expand its portfolio of luxury hospitality with the arrival of two internationally recognised hotel brands: Miraval and Four Seasons. Located on Shura Island, considered the central hub of the destination, both properties contribute distinct perspectives on contemporary luxury while reinforcing the region’s ambition to establish itself among the world’s leading travel destinations.

Positioned along Saudi Arabia’s western coastline, The Red Sea now comprises eleven operating resorts, with additional openings planned as the destination continues to develop. Surrounded by more than ninety largely untouched islands, coral reefs, desert landscapes, and mountain ranges, the project combines high-end hospitality with an extensive commitment to environmental stewardship. Could the next generation of luxury destinations be defined by the ability to protect extraordinary landscapes while inviting travellers to experience them responsibly?

A defining characteristic of the destination is its commitment to renewable energy. Both Miraval The Red Sea and Four Seasons Resort and Residences Red Sea operate entirely using renewable power, reflecting the broader sustainability strategy that underpins the development of The Red Sea and distinguishes it within the international hospitality sector.

Miraval marks a significant milestone through the opening of its first resort outside the United States. Designed as an adults-only, all-inclusive retreat, Miraval The Red Sea offers 180 rooms, suites, and villas dedicated to guests seeking a more mindful approach to travel, where personal wellbeing forms the foundation of the overall experience.

Daily programmes encourage a holistic balance through yoga, meditation, nutritional guidance, wellness consultations, and creative workshops designed to promote relaxation, self-reflection, and healthy living. The resort places equal emphasis on slowing the pace of travel and encouraging guests to engage more consciously with both themselves and their surroundings.

At the heart of the property is the approximately 3,000-square-metre Life in Balance Spa, the largest wellness facility on Shura Island. Comprising thirty-nine treatment rooms alongside a Serenity Center, Body Mindfulness Center, Miraval Challenge Course, and the Life in Balance Culinary Kitchen, the spa integrates movement, nutrition, and therapeutic treatments into a comprehensive wellness programme.

Shortly after Miraval’s opening, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Red Sea welcomed its first guests, introducing the brand’s renowned approach to luxury hospitality within the same extraordinary coastal setting. The property combines guest rooms, suites, private residences, restaurants, and leisure facilities designed to respond naturally to the surrounding landscape.

Its architecture draws inspiration from the distinctive coastline of the Red Sea, establishing fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces that encourage continuous engagement with the environment. Expansive views, carefully integrated public areas, and open architectural forms allow the surrounding sea and landscape to become an essential part of the guest experience.

Together, Miraval The Red Sea and Four Seasons Resort and Residences Red Sea introduce two complementary interpretations of contemporary luxury—one centred on holistic wellbeing, the other on refined island hospitality. Their arrival further strengthens The Red Sea’s position as one of the hospitality industry’s most closely watched emerging destinations, where sustainability, architecture, and exceptional natural beauty continue to shape a new vision of luxury travel.
