The relationship between astronomy and horology has long been recognised by leading figures in the field. Dr. George Daniels, regarded as one of the greatest watchmakers of the twentieth century, observed, “The practical value of a watch is exceeded only by its fascination.” His words reflect the enduring appeal of mechanical timepieces whose purpose extends beyond measuring time to interpreting scientific principles through engineering. Independent watchmaker Philippe Dufour has similarly remarked, “A movement must have life.” Together, these perspectives underline how exceptional watchmaking is defined not only by precision but also by the ability to transform complex mechanical systems into objects of lasting intellectual and artistic interest.


For more than four decades, Ulysse Nardin has explored astronomical watchmaking through mechanisms that translate complex celestial calculations into displays that remain intuitive for the wearer. Continuing this tradition, the Manufacture introduces the Blast Moonstruck in rose gold, a limited edition of twenty timepieces that builds upon the legacy established by Dr. Ludwig Oechslin’s celebrated Trilogy of Time.
The new creation combines five astronomical indications within a single display, bringing together information that would traditionally require multiple complications. Rather than presenting these functions separately, the watch integrates them into one coherent visual system designed to reproduce the movement of celestial bodies as observed from Earth.
At the centre of the display is a geocentric representation that positions the Earth as the reference point for the entire mechanism. Surrounding this three-dimensional globe, the watch simultaneously presents the moon phase, lunar month, tidal coefficients, world time indication, and the relative positions of both the Sun and the Moon. Could the greatest achievement in contemporary astronomical watchmaking lie not in increasing complexity, but in making that complexity easier to understand?
Powering these indications is the manufacture calibre UN-106, a movement composed of 338 individual components. Developed and assembled entirely in-house, the calibre incorporates both a silicon escapement and a silicon hairspring, technologies that contribute to greater stability, reduced friction, and long-term chronometric performance.
Particular attention has been given to the moon phase mechanism, one of the defining complications of the timepiece. Engineered to reproduce the lunar cycle with exceptional accuracy, the display accumulates a deviation of only one day after approximately 40.3 years, demonstrating the remarkable level of precision achieved by the movement.
The architectural construction of the Blast Moonstruck reflects the same technical ambition found within its calibre. The 45-millimetre case combines rose gold with black DLC-treated titanium, creating a strong visual contrast that complements the astronomical theme while reinforcing the sculptural character of the Blast collection.

Beneath a sapphire glass box, a suspended three-dimensional representation of the Northern Hemisphere appears to float above the dial, providing the visual centrepiece of the watch. Below, a shimmering aventurine surface evokes the appearance of a star-filled night sky, creating a natural setting for the celestial indications displayed above it.
With the Blast Moonstruck, Ulysse Nardin continues its long-standing exploration of astronomical complications through a timepiece that combines scientific precision, advanced engineering, and contemporary design.
